Financial
difficulties and lack of athletes were some of the problems encountered by the
ArtsComm Bullets during the intramurals last August.
“It was not easy
coming up with a huge amount for the expenses,” said Jezrelle Joy Rasonabe,
chairperson of the Communicators of University of the Philippines (Comm-UP).
Rasonabe said
that the funds were from the sponsors and the 100 pesos contributions from the
mass communication and fine arts students.
According to Rasonabe
and Leonard Gubat, Fine Arts Students Organization (FASO) president, the
acquired funds were intended for the cheer dancer’s snacks, costumes, music,
choreographer, athlete’s jersey, dance fusion, dance sport and Mr. and Ms. Fitness
expenses.
Jason Bacunador,
senior Fine Arts student, said that it would have been better if athletes got
some snacks during their games.
The chair
persons of Comm-UP and FASO blamed this incident to the shortage of funds that
they collected.
“Due to financial concerns all that we can
give to the athletes is water only,” said Gubat.
“Everything was allocated
accordingly. The reason why we aren’t able to provide snacks for the athletes
is because we ran short of money,” said Rasonabe.
Rasonabe gave an advice to the next batch of
officers that will facilitate the cluster in the Intramurals.
“They should
prepare really early, especially in terms of scouting for sponsors.”
The Bullets also
had insufficiencies in the number of athletes who played in the games.
According to Gubat
they missed a volleyball game because the players who are supposed to play had
a game before that.
“We’ve predicted
it might really occur but we never thought that we’ll be forfeited,” said
Gubat.
Despite the problems
faced by the Bullets, they were still able to finish at 2nd place in
the cheer dance competition and ranked 3rd over all.
