“A bouquet and a sash is what I received but the prize I got is the feeling of fulfillment that I was able to contribute something for the Arts Comm Bullets,” said Julienne “Yanny” Penserga, 2013 UP Cebu Intramurals Ms. Fitness.

Behind the looks of this timid and silenced exquisiteness of a young lady, Yanny has established that she has the ability to make it to the peak of a sports oriented beauty pageant. She had closed the stages of the theater in the Cebu Cultural Center with a bang as she takes pride the crown she had brought home as this year’s Ms. Fitness held on August 30.

With the theme, Festival of Festivals, contestants epitomized the out of the ordinary cultures rendered in their festive costumes showcased in the Philippine Festival Costume segment.

Covered with intricate, detailed and colorful designs, painted on her body figure Penserga sauntered with class on the spotlight displaying her costume. Floating on the stage is her paper folding origami designed orange skirt attached heavily from one pile of paper to another making it pop and look fluffy. The skirt is layered of folded newspapers forming ruffles and resulted to a tulle type of skirt.

She continued to ramp along owning the entire stage with a joker hat-inspired headdress made up from a foam board and painted with a red color. Stripes of black and white streaks added to the design of the headdress spiced up her Pintados Festival costume as the Bullets roars to cheer for her.

Penserga continued to flabbergast her ranging fans as she showed up in her green lawn tennis attire during the Sportswear segment and answered in the Question and Answer portion with wit and sharpness. Her winning reply made it to the right mark for her to be on the lead.

“It is important to engage ourselves in physical activities because it gives us strength and endurance that could be beneficial for us whenever calamities comes like flood as shown in the picture,” Penserga answered.

Her question was conveyed to her idea about the poor little children engaging themselves in recreation over the floodwaters as depicted to a picture flashed on a monitor.

Yanny made her negative commentators eat what they have said despite the issues of being one of the weakest candidates because she was not a sports enthusiast. Maintaining the right weight and eating right was her secret for a fit body she said.

“ I practiced for the basketball and the volleyball test,” Yanny added. She had to undergo physical tests like squatting, sit and reach, Body Mass Index, body fat index, core strength, volleyball, basketball, flag raising and soccer as part of the contest.

“ I am very proud of her because she made it and with them practicing for the tests assured me that they are ready for the pageant,” said Jezrelle Rasonabe, Communicators of UP Chairperson.

Yanny, together with her partner Jesus Codeniera who won as 3rd Runner Up contributed for the Arts Comm Bullets as they ranked 3rd on the over-all results.

Meanwhile, Darl Octa Henessa Santos of the jolly orange Soc Sci Stallions with cheerfulness and tropics was hailed as 1st Runner Up with two minor awards, the “Best in Festival Costume” and “Best in Sportswear.” Bridget Angcon epitomizing the masculine blue Management Tycoons won 2nd Runner Up while Zaila Abad bringing her extravagant beauty from the Golden Scions was the 3rd Runner Up.

On the other hand the robust Psalm Pueblos (Management Tycoons) champed the pageant as Mr. Fitness and “Best in Sportswear.” 1st Runner Up was a fit yellow tiger Manuel Antonio Saludadez (Golden Scions). 2nd Runner Up and “Best in Festival Costume” was a boisterous fighting freshie Man Mullon (Soc Sci Stallions) and 3rd Runner Up was the hunk Jesus Codeniera (Arts Comm Bullets).
