As future practitioners of development communication, the 2nd year Mass Communication students of UP Cebu together with their adviser Jason Baguia toured the vicinity of Gawad Kalinga in Barangay Lorega, Cebu City last September 10, 2013 to observe how the foundation works.

“My experience in visiting Gawad Kalinga is very nice because I saw that the GK support system to every family and their dedication is not only limited in helping them once but continues their assessment to see that what they have started has been nurtured,” Quennie Alboro, a 2nd year masscom student said after she visited the foundation.

“I chose Gawad Kalinga because I know it is working well in alleviating poverty community by community.” Baguia said when asked why this organization was chosen to be observed by his students.

Ellen Fajardo who is one of the Gawad Kalinga Board Members toured the students in the area and explained how the foundation emerged and what are their plans and programs for the foundation.

“I was amazed with their “pabahay” program because they do not just deal on housing but also focuses on the people’s food sufficiency,” Arjylee Castro, one of the development communication students said as she told her insights about GK.

All Gawad Kalinga outlets in Cebu are headed by the father of a 4th year Mass Communication student in the campus, Rejzl Awit. Her father, Jerome Awit together with the members of the GK organization hold strong in their mission which is to shelter the homeless, feed the hungry, build productivity, and create abundance for all.
