Prof. Roque appointed new associate dean

Newly appointed Associate Dean for Administration of the University of the Philippines (UP) Cebu Professor Juanito Karl Roque looks on to rehabilitation projects in the campus.

Roque who has been the Arts and Humanities Cluster Head was appointed in office last May 6.

Beginning his term Roque has already started the beautification project in the campus with landscaped grounds and the installation of study kiosks.

Roque plans to develop the campus with the rehabilitation of the sidewalks, guest house and the UP dormitory, adding bulletin boards around the campus and road signs, the renovation of the school clinic for the next six months, relocation of the flag poles and installation of lights in the basketball and volleyball court and putting lights.

He plans to reclaim the property of the old soccer field and level it back to an open field. Within September the construction of a new library building would be settled in accordance with the library in the South Reclamation Project (SRP) Campus.

There would be a construction of a new gallery at the basement of the Cebu Cultural Center and rewiring of the Administration building and proposing to apply fire equipments.

Roque who is s the lone nominee of the position was nominated by Professor Lawlita Cabahug describing Roque’s capability with student relations and the responsiveness to the college’s required needs.

According to Cabahug, Roque is higly qualified for the position with his background on being the chief of campus security and as a Chairperson in the Bids and Awards Committee.

The Search Committee headed by Atty. Francis Michael Abad, a Social Science faculty member provided the guidelines for the nomination.

According to the guidelines he must be a permanent faculty of the college so he is familiar or knowledgeable with the administrative policies of the University. He must have attained an equivalent or a degree of Masters in Science or Masters in Arts. He must be level-headed, firm but reasonable, incorruptible and knows how to negotiate with people.    
        
“My responsibilities compared before was exponentially different. As a Cluster Chair you only check on the Programs of the cluster while as an Associate Dean for Administration there are eight offices and get the long of the whole of it. Now that I am already here I would be serving and finishing the term,” Prof. Roque said.
