Elevate the lack of facilities

Improving the facilities should be one of the priorities of the cluster.

The Arts and Humanities Cluster of the University of the Philippines (UP) Cebu is composed of two programs: the Fine Arts and the Mass Communication program, both of which require up to date facilities for their projects and other school activities.

It is often understood that students who enroll in the University of the Philippines do not have the means to outsource materials for their projects; hence, it would have been better if the school had better facilities in order to provide a better learning environment for the students.

Mass Communication students are often given projects that involve a lot of editing from movies, posters, and radio advertisements. Editing for each medium would require additional cost. Adobe Premiere, a video editing software would cost around P5, 000. On the other hand, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator would also cost thousands of pesos.

Fine Arts students are also facing the same dilemma. With their lack of rooms, students are having a hard time in finding the perfect space to make their piece of art. There are probably only two classrooms in the cluster where the Fine Arts students can work on their plates and other projects. And considering the number of students that belong to the program, two rooms are not enough to accommodate all of them.

Although there has been quite an improvement with the facilities in the cluster, like the purchasing of an iMac for the radio lab along with the additional units for the newsroom, they still aren’t enough to compensate the growing population of students in the cluster.

The cluster should first look into how it can expand its facilities, most especially now that the Mass Communication program wants to become a department. The cluster should also see to it that by the time the program becomes a department, it can already accommodate more enrollees and teachers by providing more classrooms that are convenient for learning.
