Cebu makes negotiations with Cebu government on the construction of the Fine
Arts gallery
The Provincial Government of
Cebu is not compliant with the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on the
construction of Fine Arts Gallery said University of the Philippines (UP) Cebu Associate
Dean for Administration Juanito Karl Roque.
The MOA stated former Cebu
Provincial Governor Vicente dela Cerna’s idea to demolish the multi-purpose
building and the surrounding Bagong Lipunan Building where the Cebu Cultural
Center (CCC) now stands by replacing it with the gallery for the Fine Arts
students.
“Nothing was done or changed to
establish the Fine Arts Gallery. We didn’t see any move in the building process,”
Roque said.
The CCC which was the former
Sugbu Cultural Center was built in 1993 and it was only completed on Governor
Gwendolyn Garcia’s term. However issue of the art gallery remained unmoved.
Roque signed the papers on
September 24 on the construction of the FA gallery with an amount estimated to
2000, 000 pesos.
The signed papers stated an
agreement with UP to shoulder the expenses on the materials and the Cebu
Provincial Government for providing the lot.
“I hope that UP will have
representation regarding this issue that whatever was initially agreed on will
be fulfilled not just for the UP students but for the public,” he said.
He added that the matters
regarding MOA are still to be discussed with Cebu Provincial Governor Hilario
Davide.
“As soon as we have the money
to purchase the materials then the construction would commence,” Roque said as
he affirmed the plans for the gallery.
