Fine
arts major in Product design alumnus was hailed as the first Cebu Young
Designers Quest winner last May 19.
20 year old Axel
Que bested 50 contestants of the competition organized by Clothes for Life with
the theme “Flowers of May” at the J Centre Mall.
Que‘s three
piece Aphrodite collection channeled an Asian fusion in his designs taking
inspiration from Japanese designers Issey Miyake, Yohji Yamamoto, Tsumori
Chisato, and Tae Ashida.
“I choose the lotus
flower for my concept to focus on its femininity and structured look,”
said Que who used the fabrics Ferrari cotton and georgette as his materials in
his design on the lotus flower.
“My winning piece
improved my aesthetics and my innovativeness on my designs,” Que added.
The competition aims to seek out young non
professional designers ages 18-30 years old was judged according to Design
Aesthetics which is composed of originality, construction, and wearability,
visual impact, hanger appeal and styling, and relevance to the theme.
Together with Que who joined the competition were
Adrian Madarieta with his design “Tundran Witch”, Celine Borromeo with “The
Dark Marionette”, Christian Bacolod with his design “In Bloom”, Clieza Mayol
with her design “Flowers of Evil”, Jerrick Macasocol with his design “Purita”,
Joyce Maw with her design “The Odd Mother of Flowers”, Mark Simporios with his
design “The Truth of the False Bird of Paradise”, Thom Estrera with
his design “La Premula Obconica”, and Yorena Tabar with her design “Mooie
Infectie”.
Que’s first time to join a competition bagged him
P100, 000.00 worth of cash prizes and gift certificates.
He dreams of dressing up the eccentric fashion sense
of Lady Gaga with his designs someday, looking up to his father who is an
architect as his inspiration.
According to Que he hopes for the Philippine fashion
industry to be recognized as avant garde which he sees as an exceptional form
of fashion.
Que is currently taking a degree in the Fashion
Institute of the Philippines.
